Mummy Post | Archie's 2 Month Update

You know when you say time is flying by so quickly? Well I really mean it today as I can't believe how fast the last two months have gone. To think that Archie was born 10 weeks ago today is just crazy. My little man is no longer a new born baby, but a little baby who's personality is slowly starting to shine through. Every time I go to write a post about him I'm literally lost for words because he's just so perfect, he actually makes me speechless. I guess I'm just one very proud mumma! I know a lot of you followed my pregnancy posts and I really want to keep you all updated on Archies progress. Like I said he's a little over 2 months old now and so much has happened in this short space of time I thought it was about time I documented it all.

Settling In

I think the biggest thing for us when Archie was born was getting him settled in. Actually I think it was about all three of us adjusting and settling in together as a family. As first time parents, James and I really had no idea what to expect and were only going on stories and tips that we had heard from other parents. As amazing and as precious as those first couple of weeks with Archie were, I have to say they were the hardest and I think that what our phase of adjusting. Every day felt like we were faced with a new problem or new challenge. What worked perfectly for us the day before would not work so well the following evening. It was around the 2 week mark that Archie got his first nick name from us 'Archie Grizzle' as he was a little grizzly bear at times, we now prefer to call him our Archie Bear. I wouldn't say Archie has suffered with cholic as of yet, but he does get really bad wind (the kind that comes from the bottom end rather than the top) and we found that using Infacol has really helped with these problems. I think once James and I learnt what each cry meant, what Archie liked and didn't like the settling in process became much smoother. I like to think now that Archie is well and truly settled in and I think this really shows in him as he's such a happy and contented little boy.

Sleeping

Being a new and first time mum, I have to say nothing could have prepared me for the lack of no sleep. Before having him I took the attitude that I did pretty ok with lack of sleep, turns out I was way off the mark. I miss my sleep a lot! Having said that I'm actually really lucky as Archie is such a great sleeper. It was around the 4 week mark where he started sleeping a little bit longer through the night which made such a massive difference to my overall mood as I was getting the sleep that I needed too. During those first few weeks it was a case of being up every two hours during the night and I'll tell you now, being in the 2am club is really not fun. Our biggest issue was that Archie really didn't like to be put down; He's a really cuddly baby and if he had things his way I'm pretty sure he would sleep on myself or James through the night. It was like he knew when we put him down and as soon as he was we would have an Archie grizzle on our hands. Moving on a couple of weeks Archie really doesn't mind sleeping on his own (phew). I really don't want to jinx myself right now, but for the past week or so Archie has been sleeping the whole way through the night and being only two months old I think thats pretty incredible. Depending on Archie, we will usually do his last feed around half 10 or 11 and he sleeps till either 6 or 7 in the morning which I just can't get over - I think I'm very lucky to have such a sleepy boy. Being a great night sleeper does mean that my day is very busy through as Archie tends to want my full attention and only has light cat naps during the day, but I would rather it be this way, than him to grizzle through the night.

Feeding.

Our little Archie bear loves his milk, and I really mean he LOVES it. Right from the very beginning James and I decided that we would feed on demand and we quickly worked out what the cry was for milk (I still think its amazing that babies have different cries for different needs). Archie is now on 6 ounce bottles and feeds around every 3 or 4 hours during the day. When he wants his milk theres no build up to it with his winging, he likes to full on cry and sure lets us know that he's hungry. Whilst I'm pretty sure all of our neighbours can hear his milky cries, it really is the only time he does cry, so again I can't complain.

Being a New Mum

I have to say I love being a mum, it really is the best feeling in the world. I've actually really surprised myself as I never thought I was that maternal. Don't get me wrong, I've always wanted children, but I just never knew I had that maternal instinct in me. It's been one of those things that have just come really natural to me and I love spending every minute of the day with my little boy. I won't lie, I have found things difficult which is to be expected. But when I wake up in the morning and am greeted with a big smile from Archie when he sees me it's the best feeling in the world. Its all of those smiles, cuddles and baby sounds that just make my heart melt. I actually love all the grizzles too because its what being a mums all about and I love it.

Writing this post has made me really think about some of the things that we had to overcome with Archie in those first few weeks and I think I might go into detail about how we got him sleeping through the night so soon so keep an eye out for that. Also if there are any other baby posts you would like to see let me know.
