With January coming to an end, 2016 feels so long ago now, it feels a little weird just writing about it. But as Jan is not quite over and done with just yet, I thought it would be the perfect chance to showcase what my top ten makeup products were throughout the year. I tried a lot of new makeup last year and found some right gems that made their way into my everyday makeup bag. I think the items that I picked pretty much cover an everyday makeup look, however I've left out foundation as as last year I had so many skin disasters. I just couldn't find a foundation that worked with my skin at all. My post pregnancy skin was just a nightmare and went from oily to dry and patchy in a matter of days; because there wasn't a foundation that I loved and was loyal too I've left it out, sorry.
Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronze Universal; This is one of those products that I tried last year for the first time and it instantly reached holy grail status. I think every girl needs a bit of Chanel in their makeup bag and if you don't already the Bronze Universal would be a great place to start. I use this for all sorts of things; It goes under my foundation when I want my skin to look brighter and totally flawless, over my foundation and used as a bronzer for when I'm looking for that holiday glow or used as a contour. It makes quite a subtle contour, but is perfect for those days where I'm not wanting to go all out but want my skin to look amazing at the same time. I bought this in June and I've nearly run out, I use it everyday without fail and my makeup routine would just not be the same without it. I think this is possibly my best makeup find ever.
Makeup Revolution Contour Palette; this is one of those makeup items that I've had for quite a while, but re discovered it last year. I think pretty much everyone of us owns a contour palette by now, I know I have a few in my stash, but this one from Makeup Revolution stands out above the rest. The shades are super pigmented and its one of the most affordable contour palettes I own. You'll have to excuse the state my palette is in though, Archie got his little mitts on it one morning and thats his finger nail marks you can see there lol. The shades I use the most are the yellow toned shade at the top; I use this to set the concealr under my eyes and for anywhere that just needs brightening up. Honestly it makes so much difference and sets everything into place perfectly. I also use a mixture of the three bronzed shades at the bottom and have already hit pan on one of them. I use these to contour with, depending how strong of a contour I want. The powders blend effortlessly and a little goes a long way.
Soap & Glory Kick Ass Fake Awake Concealer; I've mentioned this product quite a few times on my blog and I don't feel guilty about mentioning it again because its bloody brilliant. As a mummy, its guaranteed that I get a lot of sleepless nights and my under eye circles are horrendous. This concealer definitely hides those dark circles of mine and is so brightening. As soon as I put this on I look instantly more awake, I wish it made me feel more awake too! The only downside to this product is that it can feel a little drying, sometimes I get eczema around my eye area, especially when I'm stressed and this product clings to it and enhances those nasty patches. However that only flares up a few times a year, so most of the time the Kick Ass Fake Awake Concealer works perfectly for me.
NYX Tame & Frame Brow Pomade; this little pot as been a brow game changer for me and has definitely helped me to up my brow game. This creamy formula just makes filling in my brows so precise and is great if your like me and love a strong brow. I bought this as I heard it was a good dupe for the ABH Dip Brow, which is something I always wanted to try, so I thought I would give this a go first, but I'm so happy with it that I haven't felt the need to switch or try anything else. It's really affordable too which is another huge bonus. I've used a lot of mine and now its coming to its end I've noticed it started drying out a little which is annoying. But apart from that I think its great and I don't plan on using anything else to filly brows in with.
Soap & Glory Archery Brow Fibre Gel; This is another brow product that I use religiously. The NYX Tame and Frame is perfect for filling in my brows, where as the S&G Brow Fibre Gel helps fill up those sparse areas and just makes my brows look a little more textured. I naturally don't have great brows, so I really need all the help I can get. I always use this after my NYX Tame and Frame, not only does make my brows look naturally fuller and thicker, its the perfect product to set my brows with and makes sure they don't stray away anywhere.
Lancome Grandiose Eyeliner; I love this Lancome liner for creating my perfect flicks. In the past I've always struggled a little bit with winged liner and creating the perfect crisp sharp line has always been a difficultly for me. However the Lancome Grandiose liner makes it so easy to create the perfect winged liner. For me its all in the brush, and the handle of this one can bend so it slants at an angle. This angle aligns perfectly with my upper lash line and I can create the perfect flick in an instant. It took a little practice and a few weeks of getting used to this new way of doing my eyeliner, but now I have it mastered, doing my liner is something I no longer dread doing in the morning.
Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme Mascara; I've always loved Maybelline for mascara, they seem to get it right every time. Their Lash Sensational has always been a firm favourite, but equally I love their Colossal Go Extreme Mascara too. I'm quite lucky and have pretty long lashes, so I love a mascara that adds plenty of volume and lift and this mascara does just that. This is a mascara that definitely helps create that false lash effect and you guys know how I feel about falsies, I love them. I can't wear falsies every single day, so this is a great way to achieve the same kind of look.
Girls With Attitude Natural Palette; When it comes to eyeshadows I have plenty of palettes, but only a handful that I actually reach for. This palette from Girls With Attitude is one of my all time faves as its just so beautiful and I love the different kinds of looks that I can create. I love natural shades and tend to be more gravitated to warm browns, bronzes and copper tones when it comes to my eye makeup. This palette has all of that, plus a few stunning shimmery shades, which are a must for me. The shadows are so pigmented, buttery and blend beautifully. I think palette will be a forever favourite.
NYX Lip Lingerie Bed Time Flirt & Embellishment Liquid Lipstick; I love matte liquid lipsticks, I feel that last year was the year of this kind of lipstick and I can see why, they totally won me over and I am obsessed with them. I got really excited last year when NYX came to Boots and I treated myself to quite a few of the NYX Lip Lingerie's. These are by far my favourite liquid lipsticks, I love the formula, the shades they have to offer and they way the lipstick looks and feels on my lips. Their long lasting, very matte and not too drying which is just a perfect combination. Two shades that I have been reaching for the most are Bed Time Flirt, which is your classic everyday wearable nude and Embelishment which is more of a lavender toned nude. To be honest I didnt think I'd be able to pull this shade off, but its my favourite one and I wear it at least a couple of times a week.
So there we have it, my top ten makeup must haves from last year! Do you love any of these prodcuts as much as me?
The NYX Lip Lingerie are always my go-to lip products, though I feel they've really dried out my skin throughout the winter! xx
