If you read my 'What I got for Christmas' post (here) you may have seen that I received the Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation. Urban Decay is one of my favourite makeup brands, but I've only ever used their eyeshadows and makeup setting sprays. As nothing from Urban Decay has ever failed to impress me, I really wanted to branch out and try some other products from their range. Since Christmas I've been applying this foundation every morning and I love it, so I thought today I would give you my first impressions so you can decide whether or not you want to spend your money on this high end foundation.
Before I jump into how amazing this foundation is, can we just take the time to admire its stunning packaging. Urban Decay always get it right when it comes to packaging their products and the All Nighter Foundation is no exception. I just love the asymmetric cut out detailing and the metallic gunmetal finish. It's the kind of foundation that you want to have proudly siting at your makeup counter. I also love that you can easily see the foundation inside the bottle and can see how much foundation you have left.
When it comes to buying foundation that has a pricer tag, I will always do my research; My town doesn't offer us any major department stores so I have no way of easily going into a store, swatching and testing it out, so I have to order online. The trickiest thing ever is to work out what shade to go for, I always feel it's a little bit of a gamble but with this foundation my research and gamble paid off as I chose the perfect shade for my skin tone. I went for the shade 5.0 which is a medium yellow toned shade, this works perfectly for me but I feel like in the summer I would need to go for a shade darker. I read a lot that the All Nighter oxidises, so it does dry a little darker than what it originally swatches, and it really does. So if you are planning on buying this foundation just bear that in mind.
As for the actual foundation, I'm just amazed by it. I have oily skin (most of the time) and this foundation stays put all day and works perfectly with my skin type. Whenever I wear this I honestly forget what having oily skin feels like. One thing that tends to come with having oily skin, is having larger pores, mine always feel enormous, but the All Nighter foundation covers and conceals them all; Like wow, seriously wow! Urban Decay say that this foundation is long lasting, oil free and has a matte finish and I can confirm that it all those boxes get ticked. I often find foundations that have a matte finish can look cakey on and can leave my skin looking a bit dull or flat, so I was pleasantly surprised to see my skin looking quite radiant after applying the All Nighter. I think the reason for this is because the formula is oil free and a little goes a long way. Urban Decay say that you only need one pump for a full face application, maybe its just the way I apply it, but I tend to use a pump and a half. A little drop does go along way though. I actually find this foundation to feel like quite a loose liquid and the formula blends in effortlessly but I find that it dries pretty quickly though so I have to apply it quite fast.
I have to say Urban Decay have got a winner here, although I've only been using it for a little while, its already become my new favourite foundation; I can even seeing it reach holy grail status. I would definitely recommend trying this foundation if you have oily skin or if you have trouble at getting your foundation lasting all day. Also if you want your skin to look absolutely flawless, then pick this up.

DeleteThis sounds amazing! My town doesn't have a lot of high end makeup options either and I always have to order on line. I'll be saving this to my wish list! xx
ReplyDeleteIt's really annoying isn't it, I hope our towns can get a better makeup selection soon :) xx

Its beautiful isn't, one of the nicest foundation packagings I've ever seen xx
DeleteVery nice review! Just a question though... How do you choose a shade that matches from online? I always struggle and I have never managed to get it right. Any tips?

I always have a really good look on the internet to see different swatches, I also look at the beauty YouTubers who have similar skin tones to me, and if I wear the same shade as them in other foundations then I'll know most of the time I'll be ok. Most of the big gurus will do a lot of reviews on these sorts of products. I hope that helps xx
Deletethis foundation got mixed reviews in the blogging world but im with you! I LOVE this foundation, it works SO well on my skin!

I saw some of the mixed reviews too :( but all the reviews I read said that it was great for oily skin and it really is. I love it xx
DeleteI adore this foundation. I found when I swatched it on my arm it oxidised but it didn't oxidise on my face. I love the flawless finish it leaves.
